Spider-Man Diversifies Cast with New Characters

We talking “Black Spiderman” and we don’t mean the rapper Logic’s song LOL…. One of the reasons Marvel has been so successful as of late has to do with their progressive thinking and cultural inclusion. Do I even need to bring up Black Panther?

Now Spider-Man is taking things a step further with a new diverse cast of Spideys to join the team in a new animated flick voiced by Shameik Moore of Netflix’s The Get Down, Mahershala Ali and more.

Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, the creative minds behind The Lego Movie and 21 Jump Street, bring their unique talents to a fresh vision of a different Spider-Man Universe, with a groundbreaking visual style that’s the first of its kind. Spider-Man™: Into the Spider-Verse introduces Brooklyn teen Miles Morales, and the limitless possibilities of the Spider-Verse, where more than one can wear the mask.

This is all about empowerment and hopefully young boys of color and women of all shades can find inspiration in this movie knowing that they too can be great. You might not be able to spin webs, but you can be great AND identify with these super heros. This is a big moment for the Marvel Universe especially given what is happening to Star Wars’ actress Kelly Marie Tran, who deleted her IG page after facing such racist backlash for her character in the famed series.
